Mini-Review: Holmes (Hotel #3)

★ ★ ★ ★ ☆

From Goodreads:
It's been six months since Holly broke her heart in paradise, but she didn't let the experience go to waste. She's moved to be close to the beach, and racked up some weekend frequent flyer points getting out to new experiences. She's not living to work anymore, but working to live. That dream job, it's exactly that. Holly's never had a better boss than Roger Holmes. But men. No, no men. Holly can't bear the thought of going through another heartbreak, and with Holmes City Resort hosting the International Conference for Hoteliers in a week, Holly definitely doesn't have time for a man. Yet, two men are standing there, demanding she choose one of them. Can Holly forgive the man who betrayed her and is now ready to try a real relationship? Or will promises kept win her heart back again?

Holly's heart has been crushed into little pieces by the revelation of Sean Cassidy's heritage and connections. Sixteen months ago she escaped back to Australia, but now the past wants to make amends with her, and neither of the men is willing to give her up.

Review: Of Shadow and Light

'' ''Even for the immortal, life is always uncertain. You should always say goodbye; you should always tell those that matter you love them.'' ''

★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆

From Goodreads:
She will be the one to take his coldness,
She will unveil the Unseelie darkness and show them light.
She will unite what should never have broken.
The daughter of the moon will teach him love and the radiance of the sun.
Her inner light will purify the tainted ones,
And she will guide the fey by wisp-light.

'Prophecy of the Dark Prince'

Messina Doe was just looking for a warm place to spend the night. What she discovers is a place the human race had long ago buried and forgotten.

The dark Fey haven't forgotten humans. The throne room of the Unseelie court is the hottest underground nightclub around, but if you step through the wrong door, there is no going back.

No one ever escapes. Never.

Once, someone did.

Messina doesn't know what she's getting herself into when she accepts the offer to go to an underground party. The party for her only begins when it ends for the others. And it isn't something anyone would willingly participate in.

Mini-Review: Cassidy (Hotel #2)

★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆

From Goodreads:
There is no better remedy for a broken heart than a holiday with your sisters. Holly Claire arrives in Hawaii determined to forget Benjamin Henderson. Fate wants her to forget him too. In her first six hours, Holly runs into the same delicious man no less than three times. When she literally runs into him, Sean Cassidy becomes determined to make it more. What harm could a holiday fling do?

Holly's story could not have ended with Henderson, it felt more of a beginning of a journey through Holly's love life.

Holly doesn't have the luck in love. She is the forgotten one in her family, having concentrated only in her career the past years instead of the family's political image. And after what happened with Benjamin Henderson, she just wants to escape everything. And though the idea of having a rebound with more than delicious hotel manager sounds perfect, Holly knows that it won't help her get over Henderson.

Sean Cassidy tries to solve the mystery that is Holly. The chemistry between the two is sizzling and irresistible. The two characters play well together and separate. The reader has already gotten to know Holly a little in the previous book, and the background story gets more weight in Cassidy. The reasons behind Holly's estrangement from her family becomes more clear and more questions about her past arise.

I wonder what the third instalment brings and how many hearts it will break? There's just something magnetic in the writing that pulls you in and leaves you wanting more.

Mini-Review: Henderson (Hotel #1)

'' ''Do you love him, Holly?'' -- ''Better question. Do you think Benjamin Henderson loves you?'' ''

★★★★☆

From Goodreads:
Holly Claire has been a faithful a committed employee. She's given herself to the job a hundred percent. Literally, body and heart. Her secret love affair with her sexy as hell boss, Benjamin Henderson, Hotel magnate, has never granted her any special privilege before, but she never expected it to be a handicap to her receiving promotion either.

Henderson is the first book in the Hotel Series, a three-part novella series following Holly from heartbreak to love.

She has worked hard to reach the place where she is in life. She worked hard to reach a new level, to gain more freedom in her life. Then, all she had worked for, all she wanted for a long time, was taken away from her. No wonder the woman is on a war-path.

Holly's character is someone any of us can relate to. We have all worked hard to gain something in life, and at least once, that something has been taken from under our eyes and there has been nothing that we could have done at the moment. Holly faces the same situation, she tries to get over it, in her way. She is strong, independent, maybe a little impulsive.

You can tell that this novella is just the beginning of Holly's story. There is so much more to know about her, I feel like the events of Henderson only scratched the surface. And the best part: It's available at the moment on Radish!

Review: Black Mark's Heart (Black Mark Series #3)

'' ''We'll be happy. I promise you.'' ''

★★★★☆

From Goodreads:
With a broken heart and a raging anger towards Darius, Mora and her unborn child go on tour where she puts all of her pent up emotions into her music, sky rocketing her career. She desperately tries to move on and start her new family without Darius casting his dark shadow on her life.

But keeping Mora and Darius apart is like keeping a moth from a flame, and their distance doesn’t last long before the couple is back to their old wicked ways.

When things take a dangerous turn and one of Darius’ fellow Fehu members becomes obsessed with Mora, she feels trapped. A fresh start could be just what she needs - but does she have the strength to leave behind the man who has always held her heart?

So, this is it? This is the third book in the series, so by continuing beyond this point may SPOIL something if you haven't read the second book yet. Then again, if you read the synopsis above, you're already spoiled...

Review: Black Mark's Secrets (Black Mark Series #2)

'' ''Ignore everyone else and trust your heart.'' ''

★★★☆☆

From Goodreads:
Mora Ellis has drawn the line. No more crossing the professional boundary with her boss, the glorious and powerful Mr. Rafal. But despite her best efforts, she can’t resist his familiar pull, and this time it’s more than just lust, it’s a need to be wanted. Darius has woken something inside of Mora she thought she’d buried long ago. She wanted him to love her.

With high walls built around her heart, can Darius convince Mora to risk everything to be with him? Or will the secrets she is keeping from those around her be the undoing of her own happiness?

Will they find their own happily ever after or will they drift apart? The second instalment in the Black Mark Series really gets into the background of the characters, explaining some of the reasons behind their actions.

Since this is the second book in the series, the review might contain some light SPOILERS from now on. I try to keep it as spoiler-free as possible.

Review: Black Mark's Resistance (Black Mark Series #1)

'' ''Maybe, just maybe, you need to look at what you are resisting. It could be where you are meant to be.'' ''

★★★★★

Take a deep breath before staring to read Black Mark's Resistance because it will be your last one until finishing this book.

Mora Ellis wants to fly under the radar. Now, six years later she works as an executive assistant in an event management firm and she has no idea what is about hit her when Darius Rafal walks in as the next client. Review: Succumb

★★★★☆

One word: Intense. Not one word can describe this book accurately even remotely, but intense comes close.

The blurb from Goodreads:
For years Seraphina Gaelach has resisted being part of the Alvöru she was born into. After an abusive childhood, Phin thought she left the days of being a helpless victim behind and taken control of her life. All that changed the night Sebastian Maviper, High Lord of the Alvöru, decided to claim her.
Three years later, by reuniting with an old friend who is like a brother to her, Phin’s life is put in peril and she is dragged back into Sebastian's world. Can she forgive what he did to her?
Old enemies are stirring and uniting in an effort to control the Alvöru, and everyone in it. When they kidnap Granger and Phin as bait to lure Sebastian to their trap, Phin must make decisions and alliances that will potentially destroy all those she cares about.

Review: Spectra

''  Lord, those who die still live in Your presence, their lives change but do not end.  ''

★★★★★

We see what we want see. But before our eyes lies a city full of paranormal, the city of Nachtwelt. They have their own society and laws. They look like us on the outside, but what's inside matters the most.
Spectra helps people to disappear. Her life seems pretty straightforward for an outsider but when stepping into her shoes, one realises that she is much more than a mere human forger. In fact, she isn't a human. And if not a human, then what?

February's TBR and a bit more

I've been a bit lazy reader in January, only to finish five books. Now that the month of February is here and my reviewing schedule intensifies by a lot, I thought that I'd let you know what's happening in the next five weeks.

If I complete all these reviews on time, I become unstoppable. The Magician's Workshop being the shortest book, with 247 pages, but the rest of them on my list are a bit longer. [Author's gaze zooms to the distance and a hint of desperation can be sensed, as she realises the number of pages she's going to read in the next five weeks.]
