Review: Forbidden (Satan's Sons MC #4)

'' ''If you find a girl that you really like, don't change your life for her. Get her to fit into the life you have. She has to accept what you stand for and who you are. If you change for her, it won't last.'' ''

★★★★★

From Goodreads:
Tyson lives up to the Wilson family name, and being raised by one of society’s most feared criminals has prepared him for the life of an outlaw. Determined not to skate by on his father’s reputation, he’s aggressively climbed the ranks of Satan’s Sons and is ready to give up everything for the club - with only one thing holding him back - high school. Tyson has to make it through his senior year before he can fully commit to the MC, and nothing will stand in his way. But when Layla, daughter of his rival den’s president, walks into his classroom, suddenly the life he has mapped out isn’t looking so simple.
Hannah is the black sheep of the family and has earned her nickname ‘Nice’. She doesn’t drink, or smoke, and tries to stay out of club business; but she does have a taste for something just as deadly - her father’s Vice President, Brad. When crushing news from the doctor puts her life in check, Hannah is faced with challenges no girl of her age is equipped to handle, and she must rely on unconventional allies for support. Allies The Reaper certainly won’t approve of.
Follow two love stories; each just as deadly as the other. Being together might be dangerous, but outlaws are meant to break the rules.

Once again, Simone Elise does it. I had high expectations for how the book would turn out and I did not have to be disappointed.

Review: Reaper's Redemption (Satan's Sons MC #3)

'' Strenght. At times you feel like you have zero, that you're weak. You think you know what your limits are. Strenght was something I had a lot of right now. ''

★★★★★

From Goodreads:
After the events of the second book, Reaper sets out to find Abby and will stop at nothing to get her back, no matter how much blood is spilled along the way. He wants revenge, and what Reaper wants, Reaper gets.
Abby:
What the hell. Where am I? Where’s my baby? I remember glass smashing and men in masks grabbing me, pulling me away from my crying son and sister. God, I need Reaper. What if I never see him again, touch him again? I can’t even think like that. Reaper needs to get his shit together and come find me. I don’t know how much longer I can last without him.
Reaper:
I hadn't slept in days. But that was nothing to the pain I felt every day knowing Abby was out there, alone, kidnapped. A disgusting feeling washed through me, just at the thought of what they could be doing to her, how they would be treating her. She had to know I'd come for her. She had to know that every bone, blood vessel and beat of my heart would drive me to find her. Our son needs her. Hell, I need her. It’s time for me to do the only thing I’m good at. Being the Reaper.

Are you prepared for this? I wasn't. The emotional rollercoaster you're about to board is going to mess both your hair and make-up.

Review: Black Mark's Heart (Black Mark Series #3)

'' ''We'll be happy. I promise you.'' ''

★★★★☆

From Goodreads:
With a broken heart and a raging anger towards Darius, Mora and her unborn child go on tour where she puts all of her pent up emotions into her music, sky rocketing her career. She desperately tries to move on and start her new family without Darius casting his dark shadow on her life.

But keeping Mora and Darius apart is like keeping a moth from a flame, and their distance doesn’t last long before the couple is back to their old wicked ways.

When things take a dangerous turn and one of Darius’ fellow Fehu members becomes obsessed with Mora, she feels trapped. A fresh start could be just what she needs - but does she have the strength to leave behind the man who has always held her heart?

So, this is it? This is the third book in the series, so by continuing beyond this point may SPOIL something if you haven't read the second book yet. Then again, if you read the synopsis above, you're already spoiled...

Review: Timeless (Satan's Sons Monarchy Series #2)

'' ''Let me put you back together again.'' ''

★★★★☆

From Goodreads:
A lot can change in six years. Jax’s sentence is coming to an end, and Amber has been a ghost since the day she walked off the prison grounds. With Jax on the outside, and their son becoming more like his father every day, will Amber be able to stay away?
Amber:
When I left Jax behind bars I made a promise to myself. I would never let him near my child, or my life, ever again. I’ve kept that promise, leaving behind the biker life and staying hidden from my brothers and most importantly from the man who ripped out my heart. But hiding and moving on are two very different things. How am I supposed to get over someone whose eyes I stare into every day in the form of my son...my Jack...who is his spitting image? Do I see Jax again? Do I tell him about his boy? With his release just around the corner, I better figure it out pretty damn quick.
Jax:
I told her to leave. That was always the deal; if I went away, Amber and I were finished. But a man’s got a lot of time to think in here, and the past years without my girl have been the hardest of my life. Do you know how many days are in 6 years? I do. Because for every single one of those days I’ve had my club searching for the woman I love. The woman I asked to marry me. The woman I kicked out of my life. As soon as these prison gates open, there is only one thing I care about and that is finding my girl, and getting things back to the way things were, just the two of us, no distractions.
Being together might be dangerous, but outlaws are meant to break the rules.

The second instalment which I waited impatiently to read a few weeks. Now that I am finished with it, the feelings are the same as with the first book Tattooed Love, I can't wait to read the next one. Luckily I have a few more MC books coming from Simone Elise's pen so the wait doesn't feel as long as it would without.

Review: The Claimant (The Inherited Series #2)

''  ''Love is what makes life worth living. Pain is what makes it easy to let go. He is sorry and wants you to know that you should do whatever it takes, to do what is best for you and Leopold, even if it is painful.'' ''

★★★★☆
From Goodreads:
Cat has made the decision to stay with Leopold in Solis, leaving behind any chance of life as an average teenager. With the help of Governor Richard, she has found herself next in line for the throne of Arcadis, which is to be liberated from French control upon her ascension.
But when ancient artifacts rumored to be lost centuries ago start to turn up, and Leopold is victim to a tragic and mysterious accident, Cat must step up and rule her people without his direction. With Antoine lurking around every corner, Cat may have to start plotting who will wear the crown of both countries if Leopold doesn’t recover.
Can truth and love survive when the path to the throne and crown is riddled with deception and daggers?

Compared to the first book in the series, The Inherited, this is so much shorter. You know shorter means, it's over much faster. This book left me craving for more, and the cliffhanger (yep, there was a big one) only increased the feeling. I really, really can't wait to get my hands on the third book!

Oh, and there might be some slight spoilers IF you haven't read the FIRST book.

Review: Tattooed Love (Satan's Sons Monarchy #1)

'' '' I can't take this anymore.'' ''

★★★★☆

From Goodreads:

Amber is a rebellious high school senior and the only girl in a family of outlaw bikers. Her four brothers left when she was young to keep her away from their style of life, but despite their efforts, she’s wrapped up in criminal activities and her life is rapidly spiralling out of control.

With her life finally going up in flames, adding fuel to that fire is smouldering and infamous biker Jax. As she begins to fall for her dangerous love and throw caution to the wind, Amber might not be able to turn back from the risky path she’s chosen...

Being together might be dangerous, but, after all, outlaws are meant to break the rules.

Review: The Inherited (The Inherited Series #1)

''  This game was beginning to reflect badly on me. I mean, how can reading and writing compete with a multilingual horse whispering, blade-wielding, sword fighting, motorcycle riding and jet flying badass? I at least needed to take upon crocheting or something. ''

★★★☆☆

From the back cover:
One second Catherine believes that she is a normal girl, the next she finds herself betrothed to a Prince. Together they are thrust into a world of political intrigue, ancient oaths, & deadly mystery.
All Cat wants is to make it through her final exams and to get into a good university but that is put on hold when two men show up on her doorstep and tell her she is the last descendant of an ancient and forgotten royal bloodline. Not only that, but they offer her the chance of a lifetime trip to spend the summer living it up in castles and yachts off the coast of France. The only hitch is that she has to be a brooding prince's arm candy.
A summer of parties and beaches changes faster than the tides when old secrets begin to be unearthed and blood binding decrees are called upon.
Can truth and love survive when the path to the throne and crown is riddled with deception and daggers?

I waited so long to get to this book. It's been sitting on my reviewing list so long, and it felt it never got closer. But now that I'm done with (not really, it's a trilogy), I can honestly say it was worth the wait.

It's already the sixth of November and that means already six days of this year's National Novel Writing Month has gone by. Who is participating this year?

I know there are tons and tons of websites and groups to help aspiring new authors to get their first draft out before November ends, and having participated last year, I know these are life savers! I've done a lot of reviewing for Inkitt and they contacted me to spread the word: Inkit has their own Writers Write - program to support all of you new and seasoned writers out there! Oh, and it's absolutely free.

Have you ever thought about writing a novel? There are millions of people in the world who have ideas floating around in their heads that they want to write down but never find the time.

Inkitt, the world’s first reader-powered book publisher, will be launching their first ‘Writers Write Program’  on November 1st to help you turn your idea into an original novel. The 30-day program is completely free and filled with special benefits such as:

  • Events and tips with bestselling authors like Andy Weir, Lauren Kate, and Gayle Forman
  • A variety of community features such as the choice to get a writing buddy who you can exchange manuscript feedback with.

“Our intention is to enlarge the writing community by encouraging more people to become writers,” said CEO of Inkitt, Ali Albazaz. “The program is completely free so for us, this isn’t about making money; it’s about encouraging talented and committed writers to keep going and finish what they started.”

Review: Alpha Malik

'' ''Maybe Fate will be cruel enough to bring us back together sometime.'' ''

 ★★★☆☆
He holds a competition to win his heart and the place of Luna beside him. And the last thing she wants, is to end up in it.
Aria wanted to find her mate, not enter a competition of her own pack's Alpha holds because he has given up finding his mate. After being harassed by rogues, Aria is forced into the competition where everyone is lying. Everyone has their secrets and they all start to reveal one by one. Aria is determined to complete the mission the rogues have given to her and leave the Alpha manor, but Alpha Malik pays special interest towards her, which doesn't make anything easier for her.

As the fifth book in the Alpha - series this one contained much fewer connections to the other books than the first, second, and third books. I haven't read the fourth yet. All the books in this series can be read as standalones, but I truly recommend reading them all.

Review: Succumb

★★★★☆

One word: Intense. Not one word can describe this book accurately even remotely, but intense comes close.

The blurb from Goodreads:
For years Seraphina Gaelach has resisted being part of the Alvöru she was born into. After an abusive childhood, Phin thought she left the days of being a helpless victim behind and taken control of her life. All that changed the night Sebastian Maviper, High Lord of the Alvöru, decided to claim her.
Three years later, by reuniting with an old friend who is like a brother to her, Phin’s life is put in peril and she is dragged back into Sebastian's world. Can she forgive what he did to her?
Old enemies are stirring and uniting in an effort to control the Alvöru, and everyone in it. When they kidnap Granger and Phin as bait to lure Sebastian to their trap, Phin must make decisions and alliances that will potentially destroy all those she cares about.

Review: Alpha Landon

★★★★☆

Procrastinating seems to be the one thing I'm best at. But with the not so gentle push from my friend, and here I am, writing the reviews that have piled up in the past few weeks.

Alpha Landon was the first book I read from Midika Crane (long ago on Wattpad). This wasn't her best book, but great nonetheless.

The story follows Althea and the Alpha of Power Pack, Landon. Landon hasn't morphed into an Alpha wolf yet in the beginning of the story. When he does, his outer appearance changes drastically. Gone is his geeky outlook and lanky frame instead pure muscle and power reveals itself.

Althea has had a crush on Landon for years now. She hasn't told about her feelings to Landon and wasn't even planning to. After Landon's transformation, he starts to act differently towards Althea, implying that he might have some feelings towards her. At the same time, Althea is courted by other eligible wolves from her pack.

Review: Chase & Chloe

''I'd kill him if I wasn't so bloody in love with him.''

★★★★★

Wow. Another gripping biker romance from Simone Elise. This one didn't let me get away from its grip, so I stayed awake the night before falling asleep in the early hours. And, of course, as soon as I woke up the book was back in my hands.

A bit background first. Chase is the president of his motorcycle club charter. As the eldest of his siblings, the responsibility of the McKenzie family fell on his shoulders with the death of their father. So, when he finds Chloe on the side of the road with her car broken down, he can't help himself but help her.
Chloe is used to having her walls up. She doesn't trust anyone, especially men, and suddenly finding Chase in her personal space is overwhelming. Having run away from her stepfather she needs to go as far as possible, but running away doesn't seem to be the option anymore. Not with Chase on her heels.

Review: The Bucket List

''Running away is not the solution. You have- we have- to enjoy every moment we get to have.''

★★★★★

Damon and Leah. Leah and Damon. I've read their story. I cried, a lot, so if you're about to embark on it, you are warned.

Damon and Leah were best friends for fifteen years. They did everything together until The Thing happened. Afterwards, they separated and never heard from each other again. Until Damon moves to the house next to Leah's. Many things have changed since they last saw each other. Leah's in college, living with her new best friend. Damon, on the other hand, is suffering. Diagnosed with an incurable sickness he is set out on living the most out of his final year. And that is how The Bucket List starts.

Review: Mine

'' ''What do you want now?'' I groaned in defeat, giving in to his gaze. ''Nothing. I enjoy watching you.'' Kind of sweet? ''Especially when you don't know I'm watching.'' Nope. Creepy. Just creepy. ''

★★★☆☆

Your average innocent love story had a bit of an unexpected twist. There were no signs in the synopsis, none whatsoever.

We follow the story of Anika Mason. When she encounters the school's new student, Foster, who is a little too much, smitten with her she lies about having a boyfriend. A fairly innocent lie that could have been easily confessed but no. Brady, the pretence boyfriend, takes advantage of her lie, though, and plays along with it. This doesn't suit Foster and he does his everything to get Anika to himself.

Review: Alpha Grayson

★★★★☆

We got to know Lexia's character a bit in the last book Alpha Kaden and with Alpha Grayson we get see even more.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Alpha series it is based in a world where the land is divided between werewolf packs, which are Power, Wisdom, Loyalty, Love, Freedom, Purity, Passion, Vengeance, Devotion, Discipline and Harmony. Each pack is lead by an Alpha wolf. The series follows the stories of these Alphas and their soulmates(-to-be). Alpha Grayson tells the story of Lexia, a girl originally from the Discipline pack but now resciding in the Vengeance pack. Her only goal is to bring down the pack system and create a leadership position to herself. Little does she no that the Alpha of the Freedom pack is on the hunt for her, as are many others.

Review: Alpha Kaden

★★★★★

'' Lock your doors, hold them tight.
Close your windows, every night.
Don't go out, in case he's there, always live in total fear.
Even if it means sacrificing your mate, don't let Alpha Kaden seal your fate.''

He steals girls from their beds. No one knows what happens to them, they know one thing though, the identity of the man who takes them. Alpha Kaden, alpha of the vengeance pack. They all fear him, all except a few. Mara is one of those who don't fear him. She has always thought that the rumours and stories concerning alpha Kaden are mostly made up, just to keep people in line.
Then, she is taken from her bed, and she gets to know what Kaden is like first hand.

Review: More Than A Slave

★☆☆☆☆

Potential, so much of it. Unfortunately most of it went unnoticed because of the technical problems. I'm going to cut the chase and go straight to business.

I'm not totally against romanticising slavery, it can be done tastefully, in a Cinderella-ish way, or not-so-tastefully. More Than A Slave didn't go too much into the untasteful side of it and some parts could've been written in a better way. But the romanticising of slavery was not what bothered me the most here.

Problem Number 1: What big secret that no one would want to know?
I didn't find it. I have a few strong candidates for it, but none of them are clear and perfectly fitting to the role. And if the 'big revealing' was the one I am thinking, then why it was hyped so much beforehand.

Review: Spectra

''  Lord, those who die still live in Your presence, their lives change but do not end.  ''

★★★★★

We see what we want see. But before our eyes lies a city full of paranormal, the city of Nachtwelt. They have their own society and laws. They look like us on the outside, but what's inside matters the most.
Spectra helps people to disappear. Her life seems pretty straightforward for an outsider but when stepping into her shoes, one realises that she is much more than a mere human forger. In fact, she isn't a human. And if not a human, then what?
