Review: The Claimant (The Inherited Series #2)

''  ''Love is what makes life worth living. Pain is what makes it easy to let go. He is sorry and wants you to know that you should do whatever it takes, to do what is best for you and Leopold, even if it is painful.'' ''

★★★★☆
From Goodreads:
Cat has made the decision to stay with Leopold in Solis, leaving behind any chance of life as an average teenager. With the help of Governor Richard, she has found herself next in line for the throne of Arcadis, which is to be liberated from French control upon her ascension.
But when ancient artifacts rumored to be lost centuries ago start to turn up, and Leopold is victim to a tragic and mysterious accident, Cat must step up and rule her people without his direction. With Antoine lurking around every corner, Cat may have to start plotting who will wear the crown of both countries if Leopold doesn’t recover.
Can truth and love survive when the path to the throne and crown is riddled with deception and daggers?

Compared to the first book in the series, The Inherited, this is so much shorter. You know shorter means, it's over much faster. This book left me craving for more, and the cliffhanger (yep, there was a big one) only increased the feeling. I really, really can't wait to get my hands on the third book!

Oh, and there might be some slight spoilers IF you haven't read the FIRST book.
We know the characters' stories and personalities from the first book and the second book doesn't bring much more info about them forth with the exception of Hector, the original heir to the Solisian throne. Don't get your hopes up too much, though, it's only a taste of info, nothing too groundbreaking.

Speaking of groundbreaking, Ms Lily Burlington, you broke the ground under me and cast me into despair for half of the book. I am still lying in the bottom of the canyon you created for me, and probably will be lying until I get to know how the story continues. You shed a tiny sliver of light to the canyon, and I really hope you won't be taking it away from me, from all of your readers, when the third instalment to the series is finally published.

The plot thickens even more in The Claimant. Cat and Leopold must be willing to make grave decisions and their lives are not their own anymore, and everything is about to intensify when the entire world hears about their engagement. They both survive under the pressure that is set upon their shoulders, keeping in their character the entire time. This book further proves the fact the characters have a strong base and they are developed with care. You know it's hard to name your favourite books and characters, but this pair is definitely on the list.

Once more, I can't wait for the third book to come out. No matter the time of the day or whatever I am doing at that moment, everything will be dropped and life can continue after the last page.
