The love story continues. The wedding was six months ago and the happy couple still lives in Pastures, the Schuyler estate. They haven't really had the time to spend time together since the war requires Alex's presence.

Compared to the first book, Alex & Eliza, this one is tame. The same constant flirtation isn't there anymore. The couple has settled down, more apart than together, content on how things are. Both of them are wishing that the war would be over and they could begin their lives as a proper married couple. But the war isn't ending just because the two want it to.

Eliza begins to feel lonely because Alex's absence from the house begins to lengthen every time he departs. On the other hand, she participates in the war as much as she can, collecting money, repairing uniforms, and helping newly orphaned children. They both race to the end, without knowing when it comes.

The book is fairly quick to read, the writing just flows. The easy banter between the characters and the exciting new characters you get to meet really make the book alive. Though much of the plot doesn't follow the historical facts, being created by the author to liven up the plot, they fit like a glove to the plot. It's not always an author can make the history livelier than it was, especially when the actual story is widely known.

When the next book comes out, I will definitely read it. It might not be a rush job since Love & War didn't leave me hanging from a cliff. It was entertaining, a perfect cosy read for a rainy day or on the beach.
